KID´S KITCHEN HACK + NEW READING AREA

CÓMO TRANSFORMAR UNA VIEJA COCINA DE JUGUETE Y CREAR UN RINCÓN DE LECTURA INFANTIL.

Esta semana me hace mucha ilusión enseñaros cómo 'hackear' una cocinita de juguete con pintura de pizarra. En realidad, es una cocinita de plástico que nos dieron de segunda mano, pero como estaba muy rayada en algunas partes, decidí darle una manita de pintura para modernizarla y que entonara mejor en el cuarto infantil. // This week I am so excited to show you my daughter's toy kitchen. Actually, it is an old little plastic kitchen, but since it was very scratched in some places, I decided to give it a second life with chalk paint in white and mint. Here you can see the process...

Lo primero fue quitarle todos los accesorios y pegatinas, y después la limpié muy bien con agua templada y jabón. Luego le di un par de capas de pintura efecto tiza (en color blanco y mint) y las dos puertas y el grifo con pintura de pizarra negra. Por último añadí wasi-tape de rayas en la puerta del horno, y coloqué los accesorios otra vez. ¡Aquí lo tenéis en detalle! ;)

// The first thing was to remove all the accessories and stickers, and then I cleaned it well with warm water and soap. Then I gave it a two layers of chalk paint (in white and mint) and the two doors and the tap with black chalkboard paint. Lastly I added striped wasi-tape on the oven door, and placed the accessories again. Here you have it in detail! ;)

Y aprovechando que hemos organizado varias zonas de la casa (podéis ver el post aquí), también quería enseñaros cómo hemos recolocado los muebles del cuarto infantil para crear un sencillo y confortable rincón de juegos y de lectura junto a la ventana, con unos cojines, la librería forrada (que antes hacía de cabecera de la cama) ¡y la cocinita terminada!.

// And as we´ve organized some rooms at home (you can see the post here), I also wanted to show you how we´ve created a simple and comfortable play and reading corner near the window, with some cushions, the lined bookcase (that used to be the headboard before) and the kitchen finished!

La verdad es que nos encantan la cocinita de madera (que son neutras para ambos sexos y además se pueden customizar muy fácilmente)... pero si tenéis una vieja cocinita de juguete, pensad en pintarla antes de tirarla ¡porque ya veis que no cuesta nada y a vuestros hijos les va a encantar!. ¡Espero que os haya gustado y ya me diréis qué os parece!.

// We love the wooden kitchens for kids (which are neutral for both sexes and also can be customized very easily) but if you have an old kitchen toy, think about painting it before throwing it away, because it costs nothing to update it and your children will love it!. I hope you liked it and you'll tell me what you think!

KID´S ROOM: MY 'LOW COST' MAKEOVER

CÓMO DECORAR UN CUARTO INFANTIL 'LOW COST'.

Si no sabéis cómo decorar un cuarto infantil en plan 'low cost', no os perdáis la renovación de una de las habitaciones del piso superior de esta casa de pueblo, que hemos transformado en un precioso dormitorio infantil para nuestra hija (aunque lamentablemente no tengo fotos del 'antes'). A continuación os he dibujado el plano de cómo es el cuarto que hemos reformado y redecorado...

// Today I bring you the renovation of one rustic room, which we have transformed into a beautiful bedroom for our daughter (although unfortunately I don't have the 'before' pictures). You can see the plan of the room below...

DISTRIBUCIÓN. Como está pensado para ser un cuarto 'multiusos' (para tender la ropa en invierno y como cuarto infantil en verano) hemos organizado la habitación creando un "triángulo" con los tres muebles principales (perchero con baldas, cómoda con cajones y cama) y así, creamos un espacio libre central que sirve de zona de juegos, como se ve en el plano.

// DISTRIBUTION. As it´s a 'multipurpose' room (to hang clothes in winter and a kidroom in summer) we´ve organized the space creating a triangle with the three main pieces of furniture (black rack with shelves, chest of drawers and bed) and so, we created a clear central area for the playground, as seen in the plan.

1 | PAREDES . Lo primero que hicimos fue arreglar los desperfectos y grietas de las paredes con masilla,  y después de secarse bien, las pintamos en un tono gris muy claro y luminoso.  2 | SUELO . Como no teníamos presupuesto para cambiar el antiguo suelo cerámico, lo tapamos con una gran alfombra infantil, que además sirve para delimitar la zona de juego en el centro de la habitación.  3 | MUEBLES & DECORACIÓN . Por último, incorporamos los muebles básicos combinados en blanco y negro, y la decoración de estilo nórdico con algunos acabados en madera.

1 | WALLS . The first thing we did was to fix the damages and cracks in the walls, and then, we painted them in a very light gray tone.  2 | GROUND . As we didn´t have the budget to change the old ceramic floor, we cover it with a nice children's rug, which also delimit the play area in the center of the room.  3 | FURNITURE & DECORATION. Finally, we incorporate the basic black and white furniture and nordic style decoration, with some wooden details.

 

2 | ALMACENAJE . Lo que más necesitábamos era una solución de almacenaje multiusos y económica, que se pudiera utilizar tanto de tenderero interior, como armario abierto para la ropa o para almacenar juguetes. La solución perfecta fue esta estructura de la nueva colección Linn de Brabantia, que incluye una práctica y recia barra de madera para colgar y un par de baldas de rejilla para tender ropa o almacenar, que hemos completado con unas bonitas cajas y una cesta de tela de la misma marca. ¿No os parece la elección perfecta para un bonito cuarto multiusos?.

2 | STORAGE . What we needed most was a multi-purpose and economical storage solution, which could be used both as an indoor tenderer, as an open closet for clothes or for storing toys. The perfect solution was this structure of the new collection Linn of Brabantia, which includes a practical and sturdy wooden bar to hang clothes and a couple of shelves, which we´ve completed with some beautiful boxes and a  grey basket of the same brand. Don´t you think it's the perfect choice for a nice multipurpose room?

Si no se tiene mucho presupuesto para decorar un cuarto, vale la pena invertir un poco más en lo que más se va a usar, como por ejemplo la cama o en nuestro caso, el perchero multiusos (159 €). Pero para el resto de muebles y complementos, nosotros elegimos cosas bonitas, funcionales ¡y sobre todo muy económicas!. Por ejemplo, en Ikea adquirimos la cómoda con cajones (59€), la alfombra infantil (25€) y la pantalla blanca y lisa que decoré con wasi-tape (6€). La ropa de cama (menos de 15€) es de Portugal y el resto de detalles decorativos son todo cosas que ya no usábamos en casa y que hemos aprovechado para decorar este cuarto...

// If you don´t have much budget to decorate a room, it´s worth investing a little more in what´s going to be used, such as the bed or in our case, the multi-purpose rack (€159). But for the rest of furniture and accessories, we choose beautiful, functional and above all very cheap!. In Ikea: chest of drawers (€59), grey carpet (€25) and the white screen lamp that I decorated with wasi-tape (€ 6). The bed linen is Portuguese (less than €15), and the rest of the decorative details are all things that we no longer used at home...
